Ken Rosenfeld is director of the sustainability program at the National League of Cities (NLC) Center for Research and Innovation. Based in Washington, DC, NLC is the oldest and largest organization representing America’s local governments. In this position, Ken serves as the lead expert on sustainability issues, and is responsible for developing and implementing a work plan to provide relevant resources to cities and catalyze action by local officials. He serves on a number of regional and national advisory boards, and has spoken to national and international audiences.
Prior to his time at NLC, Ken was the national advocacy director for the nonprofit Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, the leading organization promoting trails and greenways. Previously, he worked directly in local government, serving as chief-of-staff for a member of the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County, Virginia, a jurisdiction of one million people outside of the nation’s capital. Ken attended the University of Virginia where he received his undergraduate degree in commerce, and he holds an M.A. in government from the College of William and Mary.
Ken and his wife are enjoying their efforts to live sustainably, sharing a single car, taking Metro to work every day, growing some really good tomatoes in the backyard, and reliably supporting the local farmers market.
